Yahtzee is a dice-based game for one or many players. The players take it in turns to throw or roll dice and try to use their judgement and their chance to end up with a higher score than the other players. The game has a degree of decision-making and risk-taking all mixed in, meaning it is not just a game of chance, but also a game where the winner will be the player who maximises and takes advantage of his opportunities! A game of Yahtzee can consist of between 1 and 6 games depending on how much time the players think they will have before a game begins.

Game History
Yahtzee was first created in America during the 1950s by a couple who were going on a sailing holiday on their yacht. They were anticipating (I expect) the possibility of a boring holiday and so they developed a game called Yacht Game. This was later sold to a board games company who sold and marketed it. The sale price was 1,000 free copies of the game. Incredible to think that 50 years on this game is still as popular as ever! At first, the new owner of the game had great difficulty marketing the game and so he ended up running 'free game nights' and eventually the game took off with 'word of mouth' being the major advertising force that carried it forward!
